Chenda is performed in conjunction with other art forms like kathakali, theyyam and also independently as panchavadyam and chendamelam etc. in connection with other festivals in temples to entertain people. But there are very less opportunity for the youngstes to get exclusive training in Chenda in a traditional way to be a master of this musical instrument. Kshetrakala academy conducts unique training in Chenda for the young people. The course is based on the traditional style of playing chenda and its variant forms of playing in all part of Kerala. The students get exposure with great masters in chenda one such event was the ‘Hridyam Vadyam’ festival conducted at Hanumarambalam, Cheruthazham.
