Theyyam is a peculiar folklore art which is a synchronization of art, belief, culture and rituals. Even though the theyyam performers and the drum players are famous and in the limelight of the show the rich culture of face painting (mukhathezhuth) of theyyam is being sidelined for long time. And also the artistes behind this precious art form are also being vanished from the scene. Kshetrakala academy has initiated a strong step to encourage this field of folklore art and began a course on face painting of theyyam for the young children. This course evisions to nurture a group of young talents in the field of Mukhathezhuth having traditional knowledge and skill in this field of art.
